WordPress 3.1 has been released! Version 3.1 is available for download, or you can update from within your dashboard.
This is the most significant upgrade to WordPress since 3.0. This release features:
- The writing interface has been streamlined to hide some of the lesser-used panels by default to create a simpler writing experience for new bloggers (go to Screen Options in the top right to get old panels back)
- a redesigned linking workflow which makes it easy to link to your existing posts and pages
- an admin bar for easier access to frequently accessed dashboard pages
- a refreshed blue admin scheme available (check your personal options)
For developers, there are new features like a new Post Formats function which makes it easy for themes to apply different styling for different types of posts, archive pages for custom content types, an enhanced import/export function, and more.
Matt Mullenweg says:
With the 3.1 release, WordPress is more of a CMS than ever before. The only limit to what you can build is your imagination.
And we wholeheartedly agree! Just drop a line if we can help with the upgrade process.
